Stanley Black & Decker has issued a recall of 2.2 million DeWalt, Stanley and Craftsman fiberglass sledgehammers due to the risk of injury to users.

According to a news release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the head of the recalled sledgehammers "can loosen prematurely and detach unexpectedly during use, posing an impact injury hazard to the user."

So far, the company has received 192 reports of the sledgehammer heads detaching, causing two reported injuries to the face and head.

The sledgehammers impacted by the recall include those sold at Home Depot, Ace Hardware and other hardware stores nationwide and online between November 2013 and November 2022.

The sledgehammers included in the recall include those weighing between 2 and 12 pounds and 14 inches to 36 inches in length. The recalled DeWalt and Stanley sledgehammers are yellow and black, while the Craftsman sledgehammers are red and black.

Each sledgehammer has the brand written on the handle and the model numbers of the DeWalt and Craftsman hammers are marked on the hammer head. Model numbers of the Stanley hammers are located on a sticker on the handle.

If you own one of the recalled sledgehammers, stop using them and contact Stanley Black & Decker for instructions to receive a full refund.
