If you're looking to up your fishing game in Stardew Valley, attaching bait to your fishing rod is a great place to start. Not only does bait allow more fish to bite faster, so you can spend less time fishing and more time tending to those plants that need watering, but some bait even allows you to catch fish outside of their normal spawning times.

In this Stardew Valley fishing guide, we will go over everything you need to know about bait, including how to add it to your fishing rod and what different types you can use to make fishing easier.

Attaching bait to your fishing rod in Stardew Valley requires two things:

The Bamboo Fishing Rod that you start out with is great for learning how to master the fishing mini-game and working up your Fishing Skill, but you can't add bait to it. If you've been struggling to attach bait to your fishing rod, the type of rod you're using might be the culprit.

The best fishing rod you can get your hands on is the Iridium Fishing Rod, but if you're still starting out on your fishing journey in Stardew Valley, then the Fiberglass Fishing Rod is a great option.

The Fiberglass Fishing Rod allows you to add bait to your fishing rod by having a second slot for it. The method in which you will use to attach your bait to your fishing rod will depend on what platform you're playing on. Here are the instructions for each platform:

Once your bait is attached to your rod, you are free to fish away to your heart's content. Or until 2am, whichever comes first.

There are a few different types of bait you can buy or craft in Stardew Valley, each of which have their own specific uses. Check the table below to see all the different types of bait you can make and how to craft them!
