Aquatica water park adding Reef Plunge, lounge chairs, beach bar

Dec 23, 2023Dec 23, 2023

Aquatica, SeaWorld Orlando's water park, is building a new body slide. Reef Plunge will take the place of Dolphin Plunge and open in March, according to the attraction's website.

"Guests will slide through eye-catching translucent cutouts and rings, and twist and turn through over 330 feet of fiberglass, zooming past a vibrant array of marine life in the new dynamic habitat," an Aquatica news release says.

That marine-life lineup now will include Commerson's dolphins, leopard sharks, sardines and other cold-water fish.

Dolphin Plunge was one of the original attractions when Aquatica opened in 2008. It spotlighted the Commerson's, a distinct black-and-white species known for swimming upside down. It is the most popular slide in the park, according to Aquatica's website. The new version of the slide will have a faster finish and a redesigned exit, the site says.

Riptide Race, a dueling-slide attraction, opened in April, and KareKare Curl, featuring a curved wall, debuted in 2019.

Aquatica also says it will add more than 1,000 loungers and beach chairs as well as a quick-service pizza place, a beach bar and upgrades to Banana Beach Cookout. The park said it's upgrading several waterslides, but it did not specify which or what form the enhancements will be.

Meanwhile, changes are in store for Adventure Island, a sister park to Aquatica in Tampa. Next spring it will introduce Rapids Racer, a two-person raft ride with dueling saucers, and a revamped version of Wahoo Run, which will be called Wahoo Remix and feature synchronized light and sound elements in previously dark tunnels.

Adventure Island, adjacent to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay theme park, recently adopted a year-round operating schedule.

Aquatica and Adventure Island are operated by Orlando-based SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment.
